HISTORY AND TRADITION
Over 150 years of forging experience at Gebr. Hartkopf
Our company was founded in 1872 by the brothers Carl and August Hartkopf.
In the early years blanks for knives were produced. Then the focus shifted to scissor blanks. The shift continued to hand tools and parts for general engineering.
Today, Gebr. Hartkopf offers a versatile mix for customers from a wide variety of industries.

Construction
As a development partner for our customers, we feel responsible for the design of products and dies. In addition, we work – mostly with our customers – on the new and/or further development of products.
Toolmaking
With our own tool shop, we are able to produce all of our tools ourselves, from the delivery of the raw material to the ready-to-use tool.
Splitting
The first value-added step is splitting. We split approx. 6-7 meter long bar steel (main materials: C45, C60, 31CrV3) and make a split piece out of it.
Forge
We forge either on belt drop hammers or on a hydraulic hammer. Blanks made of different steel grades are fully forged in the die.
Heat Treatment
Depending on customer requirements and material, we normalize in a continuous furnace and/or it is annealed in a chamber gas furnace.
Sandblasting
With the aim of creating a clean surface for further processing in our company or at the customer’s, 95% of our products are blasted scale-free on our sandblasting system.
Calibrate
Our thickness tolerance is 0.4mm when forging. By calibrating, we usually manage to reduce this tolerance – depending on customer requirements and material – to 0.1mm – 0.2mm.
mechanical machining
We are in the process of expanding mechanical processing so that we can take over mechanical processing for our customers even more frequently.
